xosend 0.71 release notes
Development of xosend is ongoing so some features are finished, others are being improved and more will be added in the future. The main focus has been on the following:Existing features:
- Cross-platform - easily connect any phone, tablet, laptop and desktop
- Reliable connectivity - connections are quick to start and are reliable
- Security - all transfers use strong end-to-end encryption
- Safety & Privacy - we give you clear guidance on staying safe when connecting
- Ease of use - the whole process should be quick and simple
What's next:
- Here are some of the features we'll be adding in the coming months:
- Multiple files πΎποΈ
You'll be able to select and upload multiple files to send at once. - Transfer progress π₯π
Soon we'll be adding a progress bar that shows you how your upload/download is progressing and how fast it's transferring. - Clearer limits β°π
To stay flexible, we currently use variable limits that may change as we learn how people use xosend.
The site launched in early 2026. So while we actively monitor traffic and usage to learn how it is used, the only fixed restriction we have provisionally set is a 20-minute connection limit. As a rule of thumb anything up to 2GB should be fine, but anything substantially larger will probably not finish before the connection closes. If you find that your limit is much lower, it's probably due to your network connection. To see how to select the best connection to improve your transfer speed, see the Optimizing Your XOSEND Connection page.
For best results:
- Where possible, put both devices on the same network (ie hub or router).
- Mobile networks introduce extra configuration hurdles. Use wifi instead if you can.
- For more details see our connectivity guide.
Known Issues:
- It is only possible to select and send one file at a time, but you can do that multiple times.
- On phones and tablets, connections close when the device is locked.
That's by design, as these are intended as temporary connections.
